A native of Clark, South Dakota, Kim Kaufman started playing golf at age four on a little 9-hole golf course just blocks from her home, and she hasn’t looked back. “It wasn’t beautiful or glamorous,” said Kim, “but it was the perfect place to learn the game.”
The LPGA 2014 Rookie of the Year and Symetra Tour Alumnae, Kim is thrilled the Symetra Tour will be making its way through Sioux Falls again in 2016.
While Kim never dreamed the tournament would come to South Dakota, she said she thinks it’s good for the state and young golf hopefuls.
After eight years of playing junior tournaments, qualifying for her first USGA event was a turning point for Kim and she realized she wanted to play golf professionally. Kim attended Texas Tech in Lubbock and qualified for the NCAA National Championship as a junior where she finished in a tie for eighth place and earned All-American honors. During her senior year, she ranked #1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and became Golfweek’s Fall Player of the Year. As a result of this ranking, she earned an A-5 exemption to play on the Symetra Tour the remainder of 2013.
